Qur’anic Arabic — Black & White edition

The black-and-white edition of Qur’anic Arabic Textbook, Volume 1 of the Qur’anic Arabic method by Idrîs de Vos (new 2026 edition): the same content as the color edition at a lower price — 12 units and 60 lessons to understand the Qur’an in its own language. Paperback on Amazon.

Qur’anic Arabic Textbook: Understanding the Qur’anic language — here in its black-and-white edition — is Volume 1 of the Qur’anic Arabic method by Idrîs de Vos, an Arabic textbook based on the Qur’an, fully reworked for this 2026 edition after twenty years of teaching and pedagogical observation. The principle is simple: the Qur’anic text is the starting point of learning, not its distant reward. From the very first lessons, learners use Qur’anic words and read their first verses; the vocabulary is drawn only from Qur’anic roots, each unit opens with a “proverbial” Qur’anic passage to memorize and closes with dialogues devoted to the maqâṣid, the essential purposes of the revealed text.

Volume 1 comprises ten teaching units and two review units of five lessons each — sixty lessons in total, the equivalent of two years of study at one and a half hours of class per week. The four skills — listening, reading, speaking and writing — are practiced together, and the translations are deliberately literal for pedagogical reasons. The only prerequisite is knowing the Arabic alphabet. The book is designed for independent learners (clear progression, self-correcting exercises) as well as for teachers, who will find pedagogical notes and summary memos.

This black-and-white edition reproduces the full content of the color edition — lessons, exercises, dialogues and memos — with a black-and-white interior, at a lower price. It is sold in paperback on Amazon (button above); if you prefer color, see the color edition. All supporting materials — audio recordings, PowerPoint slides and memo sheets for every lesson — are free on the method’s page; complete beginners will find on the Unit 1 page a free version designed for those who cannot yet read Arabic script.
