To speak
ูููููู ู ูููููููู ู
The word ูููุงู properly evokes speech. Note that in Islamic terminology, divine Speech is often called ูููุงู , while the speech of the Prophet is called ุญูุฏููุซ. Nevertheless, in the Qur’an, God’s speech is also called ุญุฏูุซ.
The term ููููู ุฉ, for its part, evokes the word, and by extension the given word, the pledge and even the creed. It is this term that the Qur’an uses to describe Jesus.
Consequently, the verb ูููู means ยซ to speak to someone ยป, ยซ to address someone ยป. As for the reflexive form ุชูููู ู ุน, it means ยซ to speak with someone ยป.

ุญุฏููุซ ููุญูุฏููุซู
Originally, the word ุญุฏูุซ designates the relating of new information, in keeping with the sense of the root. Then, by extension, it designates speech in general. In the Qur’an, it sometimes has the sense of discussion.
Consequently, the verb ุญุฏูุซ means ยซ to inform of something ยป or ยซ to engage in a discussion with someone ยป. As for the reflexive form ุชุญุฏูุซ ู ุน, it takes the sense of ยซ to converse ยป (it is not Qur’anic).

To be silent
ุตู ูุช ูููู / ุณููุช ูููู
It is said that ุณูุช means ยซ to be silent while having the ability to speak ยป, which is not necessarily the case for ุตู ุช. This is why the latter term is also used for beings not endowed with speech (ุตุงู ูุช). For this same reason, it is also said that this verb often implies a relatively long silence.
ุณูุช can also have a figurative sense. In the Qur’an, it appears only once, and precisely in a figurative sense. ุตู ุช also appears only once, in the same sura.
